Just Stop It
The Braves have just run over my last nerve. They lost an entire series of games to the Colorado Rockies. Don’t misunderstand, I like the Rockies, always have, but NOT when they play the Braves. The Braves went to Coors Field and promptly gave up 3 games to the NL West 10.5 game trailing Rockies. They need to just stop it.
The Braves played well enough the first two games and in the second game the argument can be made that the second base umpire “gave” the Rockies the game with a bad call. However, the Braves didn’t do enough to win either of the first two games, bad calls aside. You still have to play every other at bat. So, they give up two games, close games, and I’m like okay they don’t like playing on the road and the team is famous for one run losses, so nothing new. Also, the Phillies were losing to the Astros too, so no games lost in the division.
But then came the game of Wednesday at Coors Field. The Braves had a tidy 10-1 run lead on the Rockies. I thought, boy this sure looks like a win for my team. But nooooooo, they seemingly lose their collective minds and give up 9 runs to tie the game. I’m thinking homicidal thoughts by now. Surely this cannot happen? Before I know it, the end of the game is upon me and the Braves have lost 12-10!!! They lost the game 12-10!
To say I was stunned wouldn’t cover it adequately. I was absolutely speechless. How can a team who looks every bit like they are going to win the NL East give up 3 games to the Rockies and give up one in such a fashion? How does this happen? Thankfully, the Phillies were still losing. They lost yet again Thursday, dropping 4 games to the Astros. The Braves are now 3 games up on the Phillies in the NL East, no thanks to their own play. Next up the Marlins who sit 9 games back in the East. Losses in these games would be devastating. The Phillies stay on the road vs the Padres and the Braves get to go home. Let’s hope that being at home where they play very well will help them to just stop it.
